As we get older and responsibilities start piling up, a lot of things we love to do start falling by the wayside.
The things we "have" to get done completely take over, and we're left either too mentally or physically exhausted to continue with what we really love.
Following those lines of responsibility I recently took a job as the Office Manager at a High School. Truth be told, I'm not 100% excited about it.
Its not stressful or difficult, and it provides what we need right now. Its also a doorway into a new career that I am excited about, but will take some time to be what I really want.
In the meantime, I'm trying to make the best of my situation.
When I looked around, this is actually the perfect environment for an experimenter like me. It provides all sorts of opportunities for me to explore different skills and share them with students.
So to keep myself busy, and my mind occupied (among the 1000 other things going on in there) I agreed to do the costume designs for the school's spring production.
Its been years since I've exercised my production design muscles! At first all I thought about was the time and effort I'd have to put in, but I'm having SO MUCH FUN!
I mean, I have a degree in this for goodness sake, so I shouldn't be surprised - but still.
And as a bonus, I get to mentor students in the process, helping cultivate their passion for design. Its a win win.
And all this from a job I thought I was just taking to fill a role.
How's that for silver lining?
